Join Date Jun 2013Posts 3Rep Power 0 Hello !
I'm having alot of troubles recently with my alienware M14X r2. Whenever i do something one my laptop, nvidia inspector shows that my core clock is downlocked to 135Mhz and that my memory clock is downlocked at 405 Mhz. I can't do anything about it, it's supposed to be 745Mhz and 2000Mhz. Even if i try to overlock it, my GPU is always downlocking when i start playing. And after i played for 10s, my gpu underlock itfels until i quite the game and wait 30s. Then it reaches 745Mhz core clock and 2000 Mhz memory clock again. Same happens when i start google chrome, it falls down to 600 Mhz and 1800 Mhz. I don't even know why.
I tried to flash bios and uninstall reinstall phys x like in this link : M14X R2 Physx FPS Drop Fix
But there is nothing to do about it.
I tried alienrespawn and hard reseted but it still has no impact...
My GPU temps never goes over 69?C.
In nvidia control pannel everything is set for high performance same for battery usage.
I can't even reach 60 FPS in League of Legends without the shadows......
Help me please !
PS : I'm french, so i'm doing alot of mistakes when i'm writing in english, excuse me.

Are you doing this while plugged in or on battery power? If battery, that's not surprising, the battery can't run the GPU at full speed.

You play for 10 seconds and you see 2D clocks. Then you quite the game and after a few seconds you see the GPU jump to 3D clocks? What about if you play for several minutes?

Join Date Jun 2013Posts 3Rep Power 0 Well, i know what's the problem. The GPU throttles at 64,9?c on alienware M14X R2 because CPU and GPU are sharing the same cooling...
I'll just repaste my GPU and my CPU and buy a cooling pad in order to prevent the GPU to reach 65?C.
Thank you for the support !

Join Date Nov 2011Posts 888Rep Power 8 Maybe you should disable whatever throttling mechanism is causing it to downclock at 65C, either through some kind of software fix or BIOS mod. 65C is nothing for a GPU, heck some people idle at that temperature.

Seriously it downclocks at 65C? I could see 85C maybe, more like 95C, but 65C?

Overthinking? Always!

as far as I remember the gpu on the m14x r2 throttled at 75-80c ish, dont remember the exact number, but not at 65c, and yes that model always had a poor cooling so its not unexpected
